Cirque Du Soleil - Delirium
at TD Waterhouse Centre |
April 18, 2006 - On Tuesday night Orlando played host to two Cirque Du Soleil Shows, La Nouba at Downtown Disney Westside and Delirium at the TD Waterhouse Centre. Delirium, a traveling show, made its debut in Orlando Tuesday night with its first of two performances at the TD Waterhouse. The show opened with a 20 minute singing performance by Niza. Niza was accompanied by solos on the bongo drums, violin, and flamenco guitars.

The story of delirium began approximately at 8:40 due to a 20 minute break for the stage to be set up. Delirium is the story of a young boy who is in a delirious state. While in this state of mind he is confronted with confusion and fears. The red ball in the show symbolizes this state. When the young boy at the end of the show finally gets a hold of the ball, he awakes from his state of "delirium" and his fears and confusion are no longer.

Delirium is not the typical Cirque Du Soleil show. Though it contains acrobatic acts, lots of flying, and an eclectic hula-hoop woman, it is mainly music. The musical selections vary from African chants and songs, and songs sung in Spanish with Salsa dancing. The costumes are extravagant and intricately designed. In the Salsa dancing scene, the woman singing's dress unravels and forms a tent in which the rest of the cast dances under. Not the typical show Cirque fans are used to, there is less acrobatics and more singing, but then again I have never heard anyone say they saw a bad Cirque Du Soleil show.
