Belgian's DEATH BEFORE DISCO have been cultivating their unique
genre-defying sound since October of 2003 and right from the get go, people
couldn't label their sound due to the complex, dodgy and mature arrangements
that were presented within.
Being easily labelled was not something DEATH
BEFORE DISCO were concerned with, just letting the music talk for itself was
the bands motto from day one! DEATH BEFORE DISCO's debut GOODLIFE RECORDINGS
2004 full length "Party Bullet" proved to be a highly successful venture for
the band and the label and opened the doors of musical progression that is
their second
effort "Barricades". You will find every genre covered within
their LIFEFORCE RECORDS debut record "Barricades" - from rock,
prog,
screamo, emo, hardcore and even metal. These young musicians are pushing the
envelope of their musical limits and by doing so, they are creating a sound
that adds the most chaotic and melodic parts of THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN,
the indie rock sensibilities of COHEED AND CAMBRIA and THURSDAY and the
progressive overtones of the MARS VOLTA, THRICE and DREDG to create a
masterpiece all their own.
The writing and recording process of "Barricades" has been a path with many
obstacles that would have definitely meant the end for most bands but the
bonds of friendship and a love for music is what pulled DEATH BEFORE DISCO
through the hard times, even though there were numerous occasions the band
opted to just give up, as Murphy and his infamous law interfered too much.
Maybe all this trouble is the best explanation why "Barricades" is build
upon the need to experiment and keep things new and exciting. The quintet
chose
the hard way and did their own thing musically to create catchy,
unconventional and uncompromising songs. Don't forget: in the end, it is the
music that counts for the band.
The ten songs that make us "Barricades" are a collective journey of
homogenous yet diverse aural sound-scapes. No specific genre can be
completely representative, but then again, they all are. These are 10 songs
that sprouted from the minds of five highly talented young individuals who
enjoy playing music and who have committing their life to it, no matter what
obstacles stand in their way. DEATH BEFORE DISCO is the living proof that if
you think outside of the box, the outcome doesn't have to be abstract.
