Burnside Project Release Third Album The Finest Example Is You on Bar/None Two Videos Ready for Play, Two NYC Shows Set
New York, NY - Bar/None recording artists Burnside Project have recently released their third album The Finest Example Is You regionally and on the internet and are gearing up for the national rollout in Spring 2006. An organic melding of indie rock and electronic dance music, the New York City-based band have been growing and morphing, adding a drummer and a bassist, and creating an album that's probably the best representation to date of who they are. "There's a directness to the album both in the lyrics and music that hasn't been in past efforts," said multi-instrumentalist Gerald Hammill. Even though the electronic elements and beats were probably the starting point of the songs, it feels more like a rock record than anything Burnside Project has ever done.?
A continuation of the path that started out originally as a solo project by Richard Jankovich in 1999 (his self-titled debut came out in 2000), The Burnside Project grew to include Paul Searing and Hammill and the band released The Networks, The Circuits, The Streams, The Harmonies that spawned the single Cue the Pulse to Begin which subsequently became the opening theme song for the Showtime hit series, Queer As Folk.
Song-based, often danceable music in the similar vein of The Postal Service, LCD Soundsystem, The Notwist and vintage New Order, The Finest Example Is You merges an indie rock sensibility with a groove that is undeniably infectious. From the propulsive thump of the opening track 'Signs of Perfection' to the gauzy meanderings of What's Said Was Spoken to the instantly addictive first single And So It Goes, The Finest Example has a heart and an adrenaline-fueled pulse. And So It Goes and One to One are my proudest moments of pop precision and danceability, explained Jankovich. "They are as close as I have gotten to my vision of a Burnside song. [This album] was an immediate record in all senses of the word. The songs were written in about two weeks, recorded over a month, mixed and mastered in another month. As a result, I think the songs have an urgency to them as well. We focused on great tight, focused pop songs whereas in the past we concentrated on kitchen sink
production."
Gearing up for a busy 2006 with upcoming shows planned and more on the way and videos for "And So It Goes" and "One to One" ready for videoplay, Burnside Project are really looking forward to reaching out further than they have in the past. With the addition of bassist Anna Bohichik and drummer Michael Lerner, they are now a full band. "With Anna and Michael in the band, we can focus on live shows more," adds Hammill. "So much of the past few years was spent in the studio, it feels good to get out there and play."
Tour Dates:
Feb. 4th -- NYC -- Cake Shop
w/ Rahim, Professor Murder, Other Passengers
Feb. 8th -- NYC -- Knitting Factory
** Gothamist anniversary party.

"It has made us much better as a live band to have a human rhythm section to augment the sequences,? continued Searing." Ideally, when all is said and done, all of our records will have their own unique identity while retaining whatever that intangible is that makes us Burnside Project."

What the Press Is Saying...
"Instead of turning out a generic piece off hipster fluff (I won't name names), it's obvious [Burnside Project] did their homework, mixing the best parts of New Order, and The Cure with their own signature sound to create The Finest Example is You. It's an apt title, since their songs are great examples of where indie rock should be headed. Check out ''And So It Goes'' -- it's just perfect." - Entertainment Weekly
"Burnside Project plays its guitars in the intermittently splashing indie-rock style of the slacker 90's but uses electronic burbles beneath." - NY Times
"Burnside Project makes dance beats New Order synthesizer style and tops them with Richard Jankovich's vocals...it's a fine example of good electronic pop." - NY Post
"As far as indie-rock meets electro-pop goes, this self-produced New York City trio hit it right on the head." - Zink
"New Burnside Project CD is their best yet!" - Stereogum
