MVD Visual To Release Two Titles In The 'Live In Vienna' DVD Series On Rufus Reid And Barre Phillips From Quantum Leap On October 10, 2006

MVD Visual and Quantum Leap are pleased to announce the home viewing release of the Live in Vienna series for North American distribution on DVD. The series will be released on October 10, 2006 (prebook cutoff September 5) and each DVD will boast a $19.95 retail price.

RUFUS REID:

This concert was filmed in early 2005 at Vienna's famous jazz club "Porgy & Bess," and features Rufus Reid on bass accompanied by Fritz Pauer on piano and John Hollenbeck on drums. Interwoven with the footage are insightful artist interviews. Reid's career began in Chicago and his extensive jazz background and discography reads literally like the Who's Who of jazz. He has traveled, performed and recorded with many of the great Jazz artists while sharing many musical moments with icons such as Dexter Gordon, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Farmer, and many more. This DVD offers a rare glimpse at one the masters at work.

BARRE PHILLIPS:

Interwoven with the footage are insightful artist interviews. Phillips is part of an exclusive group of well-improvising American musicians who fit comfortably into the free jazz of the '60s, as well as the European free improvising scene. He has performed and recorded with many of the great Jazz artists such as Don Ellis, Bobby Hutcherson, Bertram Turetzky, and John Surman and is the president-elect of the International Society of Bassists. This DVD offers a rare look at his immense talent.
