Music Is Art And Daisy Rock Present Girlz Rock Clinic Contest Now Open For Teen Girls To Win Guitar/Songwriting Lessons
From Lisa Loeb and The Juliet Dagger

Buffalo, NY - The arts and culture education organization Music is Art has teamed up with Daisy Rock Guitars for the Girlz Rock Clinic, a two day guitar/songwriting instructional clinic taught by Grammy nominee Lisa Loeb and indie pop punkers The Juliet Dagger. Twelve girls ages 13-17 in New York State are eligible to win two special VIP passes (one child + a parent), one night hotel stay, and the guitar lessons. The clinic will take place during the The Fourth Annual Music is Art Festival ?06, a two day music and arts festival in Buffalo, NY that takes place on June 10 and 11, 2006.

A brand new component to the festival this year, Girlz Rock Clinic hopes to add even more excitement to the weekend. Open to beginner level guitarists ages 13-17 in New York State, this contest will offer two hour guitar lessons with both Lisa Loeb and The Juliet Dagger. Entrants need to write a short essay (150 words or less) explaining why they should be chosen to participate in Girlz Rock Clinic submitted on the Music is Art website: musicisart.org. Music is Art will be accepting submissions until May 28, 2006 and winners will be selected on the basis of talent, originality, style and creativity and will be notified once the contest has ended. More rules and regulations can be found on the Music is Art website.

Showcasing the best of Buffalo's arts and cultural landscape, The Fourth Annual Music Is Art Festival takes place the weekend of June 10th and 11th. Located at the intersection of Franklin and Allen Streets in Buffalo, NY, this festival has become the premiere showcase for local music, art and dance and is on its way to being a time-honored event.

From its humble beginnings as a showcase of local artistry with a regional attraction, the Music Is Art Festival has exponentially-exploded with attendance hitting upwards of 50,000 in 2005, drawing visitors from out-of-state. This year, organizers have added a third performance stage, an interactive Kids Zone, live muralists, and a wine and beer garden. The performances which are free to the public include over 80 bands, 16 dance troops, dozens of artists and not-for-profit organization. Proceeds from this year's festival will benefit Hospice of WNY and Music is Art.

Music Is Art is a grass roots movement conceived as a means to keep music and arts alive in the metropolitan Buffalo schools. The Music is Art Instrument Drive has collected hundreds of instruments and redistributed them to WNY area schools. Music Is Art has since expanded to include awareness initiatives such as the Friends of Afghanistan WNY Sister School Coalition and the High School Awareness tour and mentoring programs, as well as lending support to local public galleries and community events.
