Frontiers/Locomotive Arrives From 'From The Inside' With Project From Former Tyketto Vocalist Danny Vaughn
Danny Vaughn, the voice behind cult AOR band Tyketto, is back with a project called From the Inside on Frontiers/Locomotive Records.
Vaughn was contacted by Frontiers Records to record an album of songs firmly entrenched in the sounds that first gained Vaughn notoriety with Tyketto, with big choruses, big guitars, and big drums. Most of the songs were written by professional songwriters, among the likes of Desmond Child, and brought to Vaughn to put his personal stamp on.
“The trick was to take the essence of the original song and add my own stamp to it without betraying it,” he said. “Some songs were very simple and required little changing, but others were pretty drastic.”
Vaughn did also have the opportunity to contribute some of his own writing to the project.
“Compared to the music I make in my own band, Vaughn, it’s more power pop,” Vaughn said. “My current songs have a slightly more stripped down vibe to them, although everything that I write is melodic. It’s the only thing I know how to do.”
Vaughn was skeptical at first about recording songs written by others, but was convinced by a similar release Frontiers had done with vocalist Kelly Hansen called Perfect World.
“I thought it was very well produced and had a very interesting song selection,” said Vaughn. “So, I agreed to check out the material as long as they allowed me to do the choosing of the songs. I’ve never ventured this far into the area of covering other people’s songs.”
Gaining popularity in the early to mid-‘90s, Tyketto was one of the best and most underrated radio friendly rock bands of the rock genre, led by vocalist Vaughn, who left the band in 1995. Vaughn reunited with his former bandmates for two more bluesy and acoustic rock-based releases in 2000 and 2001 under the name Vaughn, which he still fronts today.
