Celebrating his 87th Birthday on Monday, November 7, 2005, Billy Graham has dedicated his life to traveling the world, spreading the Good News and offering a simple message of love and hope to millions. Throughout his life and ministry, he’s been a great friend to numerous American Presidents, foreign leaders and dignitaries, kings and queens, the high and mighty and also—perhaps most importantly in his eyes-- the downtrodden.
As you’ll see at the close of Larry King Live the night of November 7, when CNN’s famed talk show host airs the documentary style video for the all-star tribute song “Thank You Billy Graham,” his impact extends to many of the biggest starts in the music industry as well.
His longtime friend, legendary crooner Pat Boone, felt it was high time to pay tribute to the man and his ministry—while the beloved evangelist is still alive to appreciate it.
Boone, who is currently available for interviews, has many fascinating behind the scenes stories to tell about the historic project, a true labor of love that was seven years in the making. Featuring vocal contributions from top artists from the worlds of country, pop, R&B and gospel music—plus spoken passages from King and Dr. Graham himself--“Thank You Billy Graham” by Pat Boone and Friends is the “We Are The World” of the current generation, the perfect way to celebrate the Carolina farmer’s son’s life and legacy on the occasion of his birthday.
In addition to a heartfelt spoken word introduction by U2 frontman Bono—yes, you can ask Pat about the watershed moment when “Boone-o” met “Bono”--the recording and video includes vocal contributions from Leann Rimes, Michael McDonald, Kenny Rogers, Jeffrey Osborne, Andre Crouch, Marty Stuart, DC Talk, Mark Kibble, top country producer James Stroud, Vestal Goodman, John Ford Coley, John Elefante, Christ Church Choir and Lisa Bevil.
Written by Boone, former Ambrosia frontman and Grammy winning gospel producer David Pack (who produced the track) and popular country singer Billy Dean, the song and accompanying DVD video are currently available on Glory Train, Boone’s collection of gospel surprises newly released on Boone’s The Gold Label in association with Oak Records, distributed by Sony Distribution.
Net proceeds from the song and video will benefit Mercy Corps and Samaritan’s Purse (a humanitarian organization run by Billy’s son Franklin Graham) for Hurricane Katrina and poverty relief around the world.
Opening with the line, “On the 7th of November, 1918 he was born/To a Carolina farmer and his wife,” “Thank You Billy Graham” is a magnificent autobiographical journey through the evangelist’s life, which recognizes his selfless service in bringing spiritual guidance and charity to the most impoverished and remote areas of the world.
Each verse builds to the irresistible singalong chorus: “He Heard the word, got the call/ Took the message to us all/Said it so we all could understand/Around the world, here at home/He let us know we’re not alone/Oh thank you, Billy Graham.”
