O.A.R. Kick Off 2005 With The First Of Many Headline Tours - Band Returns To Where It All Started, Drummer Chris Culos' Basement
New York, NY - January 24, 2005 - Roots-rockers O.A.R (Of A Revolution) will take to the music halls of North America for their first 2005 tour beginning March 2 in Vancouver, BC. O.A.R. has become one of the most successful touring acts of the last decade. The quintet has opened for Dave Matthews Band, made touring bible Pollstar's Top Touring Acts list of 2004 and consistently sold out back-to-back headline gigs at New York's legendary Hammerstein Ballroom three years running. In fact the band's latest effort, a live double CD with bonus DVD entitled 34th & 8th, pays homage to the prestigious New York venue.
For the past month the members of O.A.R. have been busy rehearsing and working on new material in the place where they first came together as a band, drummer Chris Culos' Rockville, MD basement. The band chose to return to their roots for inspiration for their upcoming studio release, due in the fall of 2005. Some of O.A.R.'s most popular songs, including concert staple "That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker" and radio hit "Hey Girl" were written in this locale.
O.A.R.'s spirited live shows have become stuff of legend, garnering requests for the band's participation in popular events like this year's already sold-out The Rock Boat as well as the 2005 Bonnaroo Music Festival. The phenomenon that is O.A.R. was mentioned in Tom Wolfe's New York Times bestseller I Am Charlotte Simmons. Time-Out New York insists "O.A.R. has never met a show it didn't sell out," while hometown paper Washington Times says of the band's success "Washington is way too small to contain them now."
O.A.R. has sold three quarters of a million albums and played to over 800,000 people since their humble beginnings in Chris Culos's basement. In a time when the music-industry shied away from internet song swapping, O.A.R. embraced the practice with passion, encouraging fans to tape early shows and trade them online. As the practice grew, so did O.A.R. The band has released six albums, including major label debut In Between Now And Then (Lava Records, 2003).
O.A.R. is singer/guitarist Marc Roberge, lead guitarist Richard On, bassist Benj Gershman, drummer Chris Culos and saxophonist Jerry DePizzo.
