Citizen Cope Launches East Coast Headline Tour Follows Successful West Coast Run With Sell-Out Shows "Last Call With Carson Daly" Performance Confirmed For March 1, 2005
Citizen Cope - one of Rolling Stone’s “10 Artists to Watch” in 2004, is set to commence a month-long East coast headline tour that will launch in Boston on March 9 and wrap in Chicago on March 26. Just in the past few months Cope has shared the stage with the likes of Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and most recently co-headlining with Marc Broussard.
Out on the road in the past eight months, Cope has established himself as a compelling and successful touring artist, capable of selling out 600-1500 capacity venues-more than double the size of the venues he played in the fall of 2004 when his The Clarence Greenwood Recordings CD was released.
Most notably, Cope’s West coast run boasted a sold-out show at L.A.’s House of Blues, as well as three sold-out shows at Seattle’s Showbox (cap. 1200). Thanks to strong radio support from KEXP for his “Bullet and a Target” single, the Seattle market comprises 16 percent of Cope’s album sales-making it his #1 sales market to date. The positive reaction to Cope’s single has translated into increased sales along the West coast; including a 50 percent increase in Phoenix, a 70 percent increase in San Francisco, and a 100 percent increase in Los Angeles due to a KROQ radio add.
Cope’s performances have garnered rave reviews across the U.S. According to the Houston Press, he combines “the best of hip-hop-clever beats, great wordplay, important lyrical content-with the best of rock, soul, funk and reggae into a seamless whole.” The Seattle Post Intelligencer adds “the grooves are deep and slinky, and they seem to fuse themselves along the bones of your fingers, making it impossible not to tap along.”
Already a critical favorite, The Clarence Greenwood Recordings made a strong enough impression to also land on several Top 10 of 2004 lists. Described by NPR as "a future urban folk pop classic right now" the CD was chosen by the staff as one of 2004's best on "All Songs Considered.” The Bay Area's Contra Costa Times also placed the album among their top recordings of last year: "It's music that paints a picture through the ear and resonates.”
Additionally, the editors of Amazon.com chose The Clarence Greenwood Recordings as one of the top 40 albums of 2004. Cope has also earned praise and recognition from his radio fans-he was #4 for the year on the WFUV’s listener poll in New York, and #6 on WXPN’s listener poll in Philadelphia.
Look for Cope to have an increased presence both on TV and online over the next few weeks. He will make his second appearance on ‘Last Call With Carson Daly’ on March 1 with a performance of “Sideways” and he has also been selected as a priority artist for AOL Music’s Heavy Rotation program, significantly raising his profile throughout the entire network.
