Surviving Car Crashes In Stolen Vehicles And The Tragic Death of Crew Member, Florida Punk Outfit Becomes
Voice Of Youth With No Regrets, A Social And Political Masterpiece

When tragedy strikes, people can do one of two things; dwell on it or use it as an inspiration to make themselves stronger. Stuart, Florida’s punk rock five-piece, Last Laugh, have survived a roller coaster of personal, social and political unrest, only to emerge stronger than ever by finding solace in music. Channeling everything they have into No Regrets, Last Laugh’s appropriately titled sophomore album, the band has done more than create music, they’ve become a voice that echoes the feelings of America’s youth.

Recorded over the past two years No Regrets is a breakneck punk rock power trip that runs through a gamut of emotions from sorrow and frustration to anger and introspection. Inspired by the truly moving artists that have come before them, No Regrets is an introspective look into the thoughts and feelings of today’s youth dealing with the personal, social and political issues that affect everyone.

“There is so much going on in the world today that I felt the need to comment on. When it was time to write this record everything that I had thought and felt kind of bled out of me and into the songs,” says Last Laugh frontman Charley Tobin. “While everything was falling to pieces around the world, I was going through an emotional holocaust trying to deal with the unfortunate passing of our good friend Tim Daley.”

More than just a friend, Daley was a Last Laugh crew member who toured with the band. At the age of 23, Daley was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident. His death, although terribly tragic, would serve as an inspiration to Last Laugh and the creative process. Maturing as musicians, the band spent the better part of a year writing and re-writing songs to ensure each one was better than the last.

“Tim was a close friend to me and to everyone in the band. He had ‘No Regrets’ tattooed on his back, but it summed up his life perfectly because he lived his life on the edge and to the fullest,” says guitarist Chris Ziemba. “When Tim passed away in 2004, we thought it would only be fitting to dedicate this album to his memory because he was our biggest fan from the start and he taught us to live our lives with no regrets ‘

Evolving into leaders of the punk rock scene, the album reflects the band’s evolution and maturity as musicians, while showcasing Last Laugh’s commitment to being innovative in a scene where bands are content remaining stagnant.

“This was the first time that we sat down and wrote an album,” says Tobin. “When we sat down to write, we has a mission to complete. We really took the time to craft each song and focus more on song structure than we did in the past. We also got the chance to experiment with different instruments, such as piano and acoustic guitars. We just really tried to push the boundaries of our songwriting skills and I think it shows.”

From the opening chords of “Dutch Oven” through the band’s eerie cover of the Rolling Stone’s “Paint It Black”, listening to No Regrets is like being attacked by Lagwagon, Pennywise, Strung Out and Rise Against all at the same time. Inspired by emotion and introspection, No Regrets is a punk rock roller coaster ride that will leave listeners branded by Last Laugh’s infectious blend of early ‘90s California pop/punk, lightening fast guitar licks and powerful melodies.

“We tried to avoid contemporary trends with this record. The punk scene has really become a fashion show where it’s more important what you wear, than how you play and we don’t want to have any part of it,” explains guitarist Matt House. “We were really inspired by the late ‘90s kind of California skate style of punk rock and we wanted to bring that back a little bit, but with our own twist thrown into the mix.”

For nearly ten years now, Last Laugh has been perfecting their infectious blend of punk rock. Founded in 1997 during their freshman year of high school, the group began to earn a loyal underground following throughout Florida on the strength of their “Six Sausages and a Taco” demo.

With Florida covered, Last Laugh toured the rest of the US when they landed an opening spot on the Kottonmouth Kings’ fall 2001 tour. With less than 24 hours notice the members of Last Laugh piled in a stolen van and were on their way to New Orleans for the first date of the tour. From the start, the tour was plagued with disaster, as vocalist Charley Tobin contracted food poisoning on the first day and the group crashed their van on the fourth day. In true “do it yourself” fashion, the band rented a U-Haul and piled into a merchandise van to finish the tour. Impressed with the band’s “never say die” approach, Suburban Noize Records offered the band a recording contract and released Ashamed of It, Last Laugh’s debut album, in the summer of 2003.

Since their inception, Last Laugh has embarked on numerous full-scale US tours. Touring relentlessly for two and a half years, the band has shared stages with everyone from Authority Zero, the Feds and Long Beach Short Bus, to the Phunk Junkeez, Mower, Opm, even Cypress Hill front man Sen Dog’s side-project, Sx10.

“Every minute is worth it to us. You’ve gotta make every second count and that’s what we tried do with our music,” says Tobin in closing. “We tried to make every song count, like it was going to be the last thing we ever recorded.”
