Rockin' In The New World: A Tribute To Neil Young 9 Hour Celebration To Honor The Songs Of Neil Young At Skipper's Smokehouse In Tampa, FL on Saturday October 8, 2005
Rockin' in the Free World: A Tribute to Neil Young, is a 9 hour performance
of the classic songs of Neil Young by a diverse array of over thirty bands
and solo performers at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa Saturday, October 8,
2005 2:00 p.m. to midnight.
All the bands and solo performers will present their unique interpretations
of the music made famous by Young. Young is a pioneer of several musical
genres. He helped create the 60's. California folk rock scene with his
bandmates in Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills Nash & Young. Through
his permeations of country, rockabilly, blues, heavy metal and other styles,
his raw emotional writing and composing is always recognizable. Called The
Godfather of Grunge among other titles, Neil Young remains a singularly
fresh visionary spanning generations and genres. This event is an early
celebration of his 60th birthday, and we all hope that we can rock as hard
as him when we're 60.
In addition to the 20 bands performing an array of Neil Young hits,11 solo
performers will re-create Neil Young's classic album, 'After the Gold Rush,'
which includes songs such as 'Tell Me Why' and 'Southern Man,' during the
AFTER THE GOLD RUSH EXPERIENCE portion of the program, from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Get there early for the Rock and Roll Art Show and the Neil Young
Memorabilia Bazaar. Skipper's Smokehouse will be adorned with an extensive
collection of rock and roll-inspired art by local artists as well as Neil
Young memorabilia, all of which will be on sale the day of the show.
