Norfolk, Virginia quintet Mae are now featured artists on Yahoo! Music's "Who's Next?: User's Choice" competition. After pulling in 48% of the online vote, Mae sailed to victory, beating out challenging artists Dredg, Marjorie Fair and The Sights and joining an impressive list of previous winners, including My Chemical Romance and Relient K. As a result, Mae fans can now watch an exclusive performance and interview with the band at: music.yahoo.com/promotions/whosnext.
Winning Yahoo's Who¹s Next? Put us in company with some truly great bands who've won in the past, said Mae front man Dave Elkins, adding, we¹re just super appreciative of everyone who voted for us.
Mae just completed the 2005 Warped tour, will perform at the 2005 CMJ Music
Marathon, and will soon head out on a headline tour - with openers Circa Survive, Mute Math on the majority of dates, and The Working Title, Discover America, and Mashlin opening select legs of the tour. (see below).
Although their new album The Everglow (Tooth & Nail) is Mae's second full length release, the band feels somewhat differently. Their debut effort, 2003's Destination: Beautiful, was more of a studio project than a collective band effort, and after two years of touring and camaraderie, this band is now a completely unified front, says lead vocalist Dave Elkins. These songs and this effort are no less important to any one of us, and seems to really be the first Mae record.
The Los Angeles Times says The Everglow is "packed as it is with intricate, introspective, open hearted lyrics and, frequently, a rich, shower of sparks guitar sound", while Alternative Press adds, "an engaging, superb listen with a massive production scope, to boot."
