New York, NY, December 15, 2004 - Mos Def has been honored with
both a 2005 Grammy and Golden Globe Award nomination for his recent
works in music and television.
On December 7th, the artist received
his first ever Grammy nomination in the category of Best Urban/Alternative
Performance for “Sex, Love and Money,” the debut single
off his latest album The New Danger. Monday, his groundbreaking
performance as Dr. Vivien Thomas in the acclaimed HBO original
movie Something the Lord Made was honored with a Golden Globe nomination
for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion
Picture,” right on the heels of a 2004 Emmy nomination for
the same role. The International Press Academy also recently honored
Def’s performance for the same role with a nomination for “ Best
Actor in a Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television” for
it’s 9th Golden Satellite Awards, which acknowledge this
year's outstanding artists, films, shows and interactive media.
These accolades come at the end of a very exciting year for Mos,
highlighted by the release of his long-awaited sophomore album,
The New Danger. The album was met with much critical praise: Rolling
Stone Magazine gave the release 4 stars, and it debuted at #5 on
the Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart. Following the release,
Mos also brought his incendiary live show to major markets throughout
the country with a national club tour.
Mos Def’s next motion picture release, The Woodsman, is
set for release on December 24th. Already being touted as a 2005
Oscar contender, The Woodsman features Mos in the role of Sergeant
Lucas, alongside Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and Benjamin Bratt.
The film was produced by Lee Daniels (Monster’s Ball) and
Damon Dash. In addition, Mos recently finished work on the Spyglass/Disney
film The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which will hit
theaters in May 2005.
