Q: Your debut album "Little Things" came out on Lava Records in March of this year. What are some of your favorite tracks off the album?
Toby: I would say Everyday, Voices, and Coming Back in.
Q: What was it like for you the first time
you heard one of your songs on the radio?
Toby: I thought that i fooled myself by putting on the cd and then taking it off in time for the DJ to talk!
Q: How did you decide which songs would be released as singles?
Toby: Well, have only had one single so far, but it's not easy to pick that's for sure.
Q: You write many of your songs. Do you try to incorporate a message into them?
Toby: I don't think too much about it. I just write what is on my mind at the moment and if a message comes out then great.
Q: How did you get Nile Rodgers to play guitar on your album?
Toby: My producer had the idea to have him play some guitar parts and remembered that he was on the board of NARIS with him. So he called him up and asked and that was that... Nile was excited to be a part of a record solely as a guitar player.
Q: Who were some of your early music influences?
Toby: Early on I was into Madonna, Michael Jackson then the whole blues rock era. Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd...
Q: How supportive was your family when you told them you wanted to be a musician?
Toby: They were very supportive, but were a little skeptical. But when they saw the studio for the first time and were meeting people at the label, I think they got their heads around it.
Q: If you weren't a musican what would you be?
Toby: I have no idea...it better work (smiles).
Q: What words of wisdom would you give a young musician trying to break into the business?
Toby: Don't compromise and keep at it, it'll happen if it's supposed to.
Q: What are your thoughts on Music Censorship?
Toby: I don't think there should be such a thing.
Q: You've performed on David Letterman, Carson Daily, Conan O'Brien and Craig Kilborn's tv shows. Is there a difference preparing for a live tv performance compared to preparing for a concert?
Toby: There is definitely a difference. It is a lot more preparation for a much shorter performance.
Q: Do you have a favorite tv show to perform on?
Toby: I loved Conan!
Q: What was it like for you to perform at Midtown Music Festival in Atlanta?
Toby: It was an amazing experience, plus we got to see so many cool acts.
Q: When will you be back in Florida?
Toby: I will be there in August.
Q: A person is thinking about becoming a member of your street team. What would you say to convince them to join?
Toby: That you are supporting a good cause..... me!
