Three Days Grace
"One XV " CD Review
Release Date: June 13, 2006
Released By: Jive Records

June 29, 2006 - Three Days Grace is back and they
won’t be disappointing anyone. Their new album “One X” is a loud proclamation of coming face to face with the world. Not entirely full of angry lyrics this time around, but words of honesty and cooped up anxiety that has found a door….finally! They have found that inner demon and are getting it the heck out. Awesome guitar solo right from the start on track number one “It’s All Over” This track is about when you’re “on the edge of falling over” like so many of us have been there. This song introduces the theme for this album. A lot of realities being met and past confusion of pain, love, and artificialness is realized. A true coming out of the dark album.

The third track off the album, “Animal I Have Become” is heaviest rock at its finest and also their released single. Booming bass, wild screaming guitars, and drums that won’t stop are the elements that make this track the best on the album. The lyrics of being caged like an animal and wanting to break free make you wonder what has lead singer Adam Gontier gone through since 3 Days Grace’s last album in 2003? Whatever it was can only help this single climb to the top of the charts.

The Fourth Track is ‘Never Too Late” and it gives you hope when you are completely feeling like you don’t belong and you want life to end. It repeats that “it’s never too late.” It has a beautiful acoustic guitar in the opening and closing that confirms a feeling of reassurance. This song encompasses a more tranquil melody and powerful lyrics.

Track number seven, is “Get Out Alive”. The verses are extremely eerie and the harmonies are subtle but greatly placed. I enjoyed the rhythm of this song and the anxiety is very much present in this song in lyrics and in his screaming vocals.

“Let It Die” is the ode to the breakup song at track number eight. Honest lyrics, catchy chorus, and he admits that “I just don’t care about you anymore” Imagine being told that when you get dumped? Well, it just got promoted to one of my favorite songs on the album.

The next few songs, you can feel the mood getting a little less hectic and more positive reflections. “I will
not die” and “I will survive” are some of the lyrics that encompass track number ten “Time of Dying”. It’s heavy and makes you want to cheer him along for getting out of his dark troubled thoughts.

This album is very rewarding musically and lyrically and should do very well for Three Days Grace. 10 out of the 12 songs on the album, I found very addicting and you should allow “One X” to take over your CD player very soon.
