"Come What(ever) May " CD Review
By Melissa Deskovic/FloridaEntertainmentScene.com
Release Date: August 1, 2006
Released By: Roadrunner Records

September 29, 2006 - Stone Sour’s sophomore attempt Come What(ever) May shatters any preconceived notions of what most people assumed this album would be. Much like any underdog they had a lot stacked against them, the lukewarm debut release back in 2002, the constant assumption of sound resemblances and Slipknot comparisons, and the eye rolling of the critics who seemed to dismiss the album before it even got out of the studio.

With all of the chips stacked against them they came out swinging with their first single, “Get Inside” where Corey Taylor (Slipknot vocalist) displays his harsher vocals which die hard slipknot fans have come to know and love yet what is surprising is his extremely melodic and powerful range which is put on display on songs such as “Bother” and “Inhale”. Lets also not forget the other members of Stone Sour such as Roy Mayorgo whose talent is also shining on this album especially on the song “Hell and Consequences” with it’s double-bass drum beat that is as amazing as it is complicated. James Root and Josh Rand are also thrust into the spotlight by their talents not only as individuals but also as a team as they seamlessly play off of each other creating intricate dual solos that will leave you stunned.

Taylor branches off lyrically and touches on a variety of topics with a surprising spoken word song that ends the album leaving the listener feeling voyeuristic in nature yet unable to look away giving the album a very personal and real connection to its audience. Combining a variety of styles, tempos, and radio friendly/fan adored music it makes one wonder if STONE SOUR is in fact only a side project or if they are here to stay. Either way they have officially made their mark and I for one am enjoying the ride.

Stone Sour is:
Corey Taylor - Vocals
James Root - Guitar
Josh Rand - Guitar
Shawn Economaki - Bass
Roy Mayorga – Drums

Stone Sour is From Des Moines, IA and tour on a regular basis. For more band information visit the official Stone Sour Website. To sample music log onto the Stone Sour page at Myspace.com.
