Slayer Rocks The Ford Amphitheater
by K. Shawn Davis/FloridaEntertainmentScene.com |
July 27, 2007 - Tampa, FL -
Slayer on a Co-Headline tour with Marilyn Manson played tonight at Ford Amphitheater in Tampa, FL. Though I found this to be an odd genre mix of music and crowd both artists made it work to perfection tonight.

Tom Araya of Slayer |
Several thousand loyal Slayer fans stood in the sticky heat outside, armed with their metal gear, long head banging hair, and loyal horns in the air. The Slayer army was front and center to worship the thrash metal band that many of them have followed since the early 1980's, eagerly awaiting songs from Slayer's special limited edition "Christ Illusion" [which includes
their DVD as well as new tracks] and other Slayer fan favorites.
Slayer hit the stage and in the first note people came
running to the stage and surrounding location seating screaming "SLAYER"
Bam! The lights, the smoke, the nail on metal took over the arena. Most
noticed were newer tracks “Eyes of the Insane,” which earned the band a
Grammy nomination in 2007 and “Cult” which drew all to attention. They
did not leave out their familiar favorites which caused hundreds to enter the
pit and thousands to throw their hair in brutal thrusts as they sang about
everything from demons to religion to serial killers in lyric, all while not
missing a chance to rock out with the crowd themselves.

Kerry King of Slayer |
Playing at least a 90 minute set with the last song having even more energy
than the first, Slayer delivered all that was expected and more. I wish I
had a dollar for everyone that ran up to me and just yelled "Slayer" in my
face and moved onto the next person as they made their path through the sea of
black. Fans most bands could only think of having.

Jeff Hanneman of Slayer |
Slayer consists of four aggressive musicians that guide their fans as they
surf by them in this metal boiler that you have to see to feel the connection.
Tom Araya spews some brutal vocals and bass into the masses, Jeff Hanneman
and Kerry King played amazing riffs that was like a thrash symphony and Dave Lombardo on drums throwing sweat and brutality, all give Slayer a live edge that few bands today can rival.
Nothing can compare to the live gut retching performance these metal heads deliver!
I have not heard the entire album or seen the DVD from the new edition of "Christ Illusion" but some of the new tracks can be previewed at the Slayer page at Myspace.com.
