Nov 5, 2004 - Simple Plan hit the stage around 10:00 pm lead
out by drummer Chuck Comeau and quickly followed by the other band
members. They started their show off with a bang by playing "Shut Up," from their first album.
Simple Plan played about 16 songs during their set. Around
six (6) were from their brand new CD, "Still Not Getting Any," which
came out on October 26, 2004, (on Lava Records) and certainly is
one of the must buy album's of the year.
Singer Pierre Bouvier was entertaining as always; dancing
around the stage like there was no tomorrow and poking fun at an
entertainer who had lip-synching problems on a late night show.
Guitarist Seb Lefebvre was giving his guitar picks to fans all
night long and jumping around like a basketball player. Chuck was
throwing his drum sticks to willing fans and I saw bassist David
Desrosiers give a young fan a pick. People were singing the words
to all their songs and having an incredible amount of fun. I saw
one girl try to crowd surf. They only downside of the night were
people who kept pushing their way to the front.
Highlights of the show included a great rendition of "Addicted" and "I'm
just a Kid" both from their "No Pads, No Helmets...Just
Balls" album. Top notch versions of "Welcome To My Life" and "Me
Against the World" were
the songs that stood out from their new album. They even played an
old song called “Happy Together,” which is on the "Freaky
Friday" soundtrack.
They had an autograph signing earlier in the day and a camera phone
contest where fans email their personal photos to a phone number.
Between sets a huge screen displayed some of the photos and one lucky
winner got to meet Simple Plan after the show. If that wasn't enough
some fans were able to get posters of the band. All in all it was
a great night of fun and music by one of the better live bands I
have seen perform.
