"Blood Stained Love Story" CD Review
By Megan Ash/FloridaEntertainmentScene.com
Release Date: January 23, 2007
Released By: Island Records |
October 10, 2007 - Josey Scott started the band called Saliva in 1996, in musically inclined Memphis, Tennessee. Island Records took notice to the hard rock group after they had entered in National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Grammy Showcase competition, signing them up for the album "Every Six Seconds." Then shortly afterwards coming out with "Back Into Your System," with the hits ‘Always’ and ‘Rest In Pieces‘.
In ‘04 two years after Back Into Your System came out Saliva came out with Survival of the Sickest. (I survived for I was fairly sick after listening to the album.) Some groups have a slumming album; Survival of the Sickest was that album for Saliva. It strayed violently from the previous albums and didn’t go so well, at least they tried something new. This album, Blood Stained Love Story is in the tradition of Every Six Seconds and Back Into Your System.
The song ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ is comparable to ‘Superstar’ off of Back Into Your System. Though if you like ‘Click, Click, Boom’ you’ll appreciate ‘King of the Stereo‘, the song has a familiar vibe. This album has a lot of vibes from the two previous, rockin, albums but in a very good way. Some groups take what sold well - rehash it and sell it again hoping to regain some creditability. Saliva didn’t do that to us, it’s all new and fantastic. The only song on the whole album that I was displeased with was ‘Twister’ it just stuck out of the whole album like a sore thumb, with inept lyrics to boot. The hidden gem is ‘Black Sheep‘, with its catchy chorus and head banging tune, it’s hit worthy and has quickly become a fan favorite at live shows.
"Blood Stained Love Story" also features new rhythm guitarist, Jonathan Montoya, who clearly has helped rejuvenate Saliva, both in the studio and on stage. So if you are new to the Saliva fan-group, skip over Survival of the Sickest, get Blood Stained Love Story and Saliva's first two albums and rock out at a party.
