Riddlin' Kids Concert Review
at Rockerfella's in Bradenton, FL |
December 4, 2004 - Let me start off by saying, there are only three bands that I've seen in concert four times. One of them being the Riddlin' Kids. Yes, there are benefits to seeing any band this many times; you see them grow and evolve as people and musicians, you have more chances to meet and get to know them, blah, blah, blah. But, there
are also some downfalls, like if they put on a really bad show, or if they do something that makes you embarrassed to say you've seen them at all. Luckily for me, that hasn't
happened yet.
The first time I saw the Riddlin' Kids was in late November 2000, I was amazed at how good they were. I went to school raving about their show, then going home and having their EP in constant rotation. From this past Saturday, I could say that they didn't put on a "bad" show, but sadly, I feel this was the most disappointing of the four times I've seen them. I know that any band can't be perfect all the time and, honestly, their show wasn't that bad.
Just like every show, there were high points and low points. High points like finally hearing new songs live, inviting other bands on stage to sing, belching into the mirophone (burping is so much funnier amplified), dedicating songs to random people... it almost makes me feel bad about comparing it all to the previous shows. In the past, they never seemed to miss a note; now, whole lines were left out of songs. Before, the band was energetic to say the least, whereas this time, the band seemed tired (but after two years of touring straight through who could really blame them?)
Maybe if there had been more of an audience or more crowd participation the show would've been more lively. Or if I wasn't comparing them to their past shows, maybe this one would've seemed better. After all, this is the same band that made me happy so many times before.
