Relient K - "Mmhmm" CD Review |
Hailing from Ohio this 4 piece band has found a way to reach the masses. With an infectious pop-punk sound they spread their message of hope while the whole time remaining true to the fact that we are all still human and even the strongest of us fall short sometimes.
Throughout Relient K's existence we have seen a maturing that has resulted in the best album by the group to date. Starting in 2000 the group had a very sophomoric feel and now overall they seem to have found a great balance which is reflected in their latest project "Mmhmm" The songs seem to flow seamlessly from one to another and you find yourself bobbing your head along with the power cords and offbeat interludes that accompany this album.
With songs like "Be My Escape" and "I So Hate Consequences" they talk about the power of faith, and redemption in a way that the younger generation will relate to. Yet don't think that this album is all serious and solemn because that is far from it, they still have their sense of humor that we have seen on previous albums. In songs like "High of 75" they make fun of the weather in the grand state of Ohio and in the song "My Girls Ex-boyfriend" they do something that most girls NEVER see any man do, they actually THANK the girls ex-boyfriend for breaking up with her! Now that's class!
Produced by some of the finest in the Christian industry (ex producers: Toby McKeehan and Joey Elwood) this album will keep you pumped up and happy for its entirety. They let you know that you are not the only one that has been there and that there is hope for all, if you are willing to accept it.
