The Sacramento natives known as Papa Roach released their third album, Getting Away With Murder August 31, 2004 after a two year gap from their previous album LoveHateTradegy.

I was a bit excited to hear what Papa Roach had up their sleeves this time around. Would their music perhaps take the harder route? Or tap into the genre most bands nowadays are attempting known as "Emo?"

After listening to this album, I came to realize P Roach took neither path, however, did indeed change their sound.

The CD kicked off with an up-beat song simply called "Blood." When hearing the word "blood" most may come to think of a doctors office, or the color red, or something along those lines. However, this track is definitely not about spending the day in the doctors office. Lead vocalist, Jacoby Shaddix belts out angry yet sympathetic lyrics concerning a time in his life a person may have betrayed him. "I will forgive but I won't forget, And I hope you know you've lost my respect - You better watch out, If you don't know what's going on around you..."

A few tracks down the album, you come across a song called "Take Me." The track is very catchy and easy on the ears. I admirer the easily relatable lyrics the song provides. Shaddix speaks about the feeling of being alone and friends not understanding what he's going through. "My souls in a coma, And none of my friends can tell, I'm reaching out of getting something, This is just a story of a broken soul."

The self-titled track and first single "Getting Away With Murder" follows next on the album. This song would definitely be considered in the category of "radio friendly" songs. You can easily find yourself singing along to the addicting chorus throughout the day. "I feel irrational, So confrontational, To tell the truth I am, Getting away with murder..." Very smart single to release first.

The album continues with it's solidity of P Roach's new approach to music. They honestly did an overall great job. It's a fun and energetic CD to listen too. However, listening to the album reminded me a bit of the band formally known as Die Trying. Ironically enough, Papa Roach and the members of DT happen to be close friends. Perhaps P Roach picked up some pointers after their friends' successful year in 2003?
