"The Paramour Sessions" CD Review
By Liz Fernandez/FloridaEntertainmentScene.com
Release Date: September 12, 2006
Released By: Geffen Records

June 19, 2007 - Long ago Papa Roach left behind their rap metal roots and have now reiterated their established hard rock nu-metal style in their 2006 release, The Paramour Sessions. You will find 13 tracks of hard guitar driven melodies and brooding changing riffs accompanied by typical themes of breaking up, hanging out, and changes in life.

This is a good follow up to their Getting Away With Murder 2004 release. It follows mainly the same vibe, but I would say leans more towards the alternative commercial material listeners tend to enjoy.

Track one, "To Be Loved," was their first 2006 released single that did notably well on the billboard charts. It’s fast, demanding, and exceedingly catchy. You may think you don’t know the chorus, but when it kicks in you are already singing along.

You should find “Crash”, the third track, to be very enjoyable. Singer Jacoby Shaddix sings with anguish about being the victim and the track is simple but the down beats and the urgency of guitar changes offer a memorable groove.

Track four, “The World Around You” would have been impressive as a released single. I’m in love with the catchy chorus and the build up to the guitar solo takes you very high. Good enthusiastic drumming towards the end and a painful measure in Jacob’s screaming lyrics can leave you sore.

“Forever”, number five on the album, has held it’s place on the Billboard Hot Modern Tracks for 21 weeks and its no wonder listeners are enjoying it. It has slow, easy listening verses and a very driven and lyrically memorable chorus. I think the ladies are enjoying this one. The break down at the end leaves you with just Jacoby’s voice and some slower drum beats proving to be one of the most pop tracks on the album. “Time Is Running Out” is the other track that falls in this category. They both have a “today’s hit” sound ready for radio.

And my favorite track is number ten, “No More Secrets.” Fast tempo, great guitar work, and everything you can expect from this band.
