"The Analog Standard" CD Review
Release Date: October 27, 2005
Released By: One Perfect Minute

October 10, 2005 - For those of you familiar with OPM music, you are aware of how outstanding their first album, Opaque, truly was. It couldn't possibly be topped -- Right?

Well, I have news for you. They have not only topped their last album, but have created something so innovative you will be blown out of your mind. Aside from the fact the album was produced by the boys themselves, it was engineered by Jeff Tomei (responsible for Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins and Someone Like You - Matchbox 20) and mastered by Rodney Mills (Yield - Pearl Jam).

After listening to this album relentlessly over and over again, I have come to the conclusion this is the best thing that's happened since Jimi Hendrix picked up a guitar.

"The Analog Standard," kicks off with an upbeat, yet catchy song entitled "The Ghost." One of my favorite aspects of this track is the concept. Lyrically, its a complexity of emotional circumstantial interference in life.

"This is your conscience, this is the ghost of all the things in your life you neglect the most, this is for confidence, this is for fear, if you're so shy and quiet, what are you doing here?"

Lead guitarist, Mike Vranek and lead vocals/rhythm guitar, Nick Duarte do an incredible job keeping the listeners attention with such amazing guitar riffs. Outstanding drumbeats captured by Ed Ziehm truly shine alongside bassist Brad Livingston also doing a great job himself.

A few songs down the album you come across "Waiting For an Answer." This is one of my favorite tracks embedded on the twelve song release. Musically its a sweet melody that may never escape your thoughts. Its screaming emotion right through your stereo speakers. The lyrics sound as if they're coming straight from the heart dancing around your emotional well-being.

Only two tracks further down, your ears fall into a melodic experience called "Hard to Resist." The song is exactly what the title says. It’s physically impossible not to move some sort of body part, whether bobbing your head or shaking your legs, this song makes you want to get up and dance. Duarte has an incredibly amazing voice and is one of the few vocalists who truly knows how to use his talent to its full potential under any circumstance. I have fallen in love with the ending of "Hard to Resist." The whole melody makes a smooth, creative transition into this slower-tempo extravaganza. It’s almost hypnotic. Duarte’s vocal ability prances around Zeihm’s amazing drumbeat and sultry vibes the song releases.

Aside from being completely hooked to this album, I have discovered the love of my life. It’s only five little words too -- "The Last of You Kind." The tone, melody, rhythm, lyrics, everything this song stands for screams pure addiction. It’s not a song you can just listen to once and go on with your life. Lyrically, it’s infectious with captivation and sex appeal. It’s an intense creation of beauty with an amazing guitar. Livingston keeps the melody constant while Vranek slides off into a world of mind-blowing creativity. The simplistic, yet inevitable drumbeat greatly contributes to keep your head moving.

One Perfect Minute is one of the most incredible bands out there today. They have this way of monopolizing music into a recognizable sound of their own. Take track twelve for example, "Space Oddity." Now, most David Bowie fans may recognize that title seeing how the man himself released it as a single. However, OPM took the outstanding song and reinvented it with their own style while still upholding the basic Bowie tempo. Livingston did a great job with this track.

The Analog Standard is honestly a MUST HAVE album. These boys have created something any music lover would be crazy not to own. But don't take my word for it, check them out for yourself.
