October Fall
"A Season In Hell " CD Review
Release Date: February 21, 2006
Released By: Decaydance

June 7, 2006 - October Fall’s new full length album “A Season In Hell” delivers the lush and Emo-like vocal cries of lead singer Pat DAndrea. Relying mostly on piano driven melodies they put together some really catchy songs. This album shares some passionate and wistful lyrics yielding from an obvious broken heart. That’s good! Get it all out! We like that and I’ll call this band “Emotional Indie Pop” for now and wait for the next album to see if there is a different direction.

Producer Mike Green did wonders on this album keeping the band’s Indy sound and incorporating the musical structure of a traditional pop song. The first track “Second Chances” sets the tone for this band. It includes wanting and descriptive lyrics of waiting up all night for that certain someone to come back and has perfect harmonies hidden behind melodies, a happy piano and a steady easy to get hooked on rhythm. The song takes a break and shares some clapping and then hits you with a guitar riff that makes you rock your head for just a moment. I’ll have to admit I also had track number two on repeat for a while. I had to stop myself and force the skip key down once and for all. The lyrics are simple and keep repeating “I hope you’re ready now for all the storms to head your way” but it’s catchy and so up beat. The song has a vicious cycle of going from easy to heavier demonstrating these transitions like raindrops to thunder. It is cleverly titled “Caught In The Rain”.

Track number four “Walking” is as pop as this album wishes to go. The lyrical structure resembles that of Something Corporate. I enjoyed track number nine “Keep It Comin.” The music is more intense and the singer sounds like he is pretty much sick of waiting around for that special someone that apparently keeps breaking his heart. Who is it that made you come up with all these songs full of such intrinsic angst? Well, thank them and I thank you for sharing this raw emotion.

You can check out October Fall when they hit Orlando, FL on July 17, 2006 at the Social.
