The movie Napoleon Dynamite released in
2004 has quickly made its way onto the list of
cult classics. With its relatable storyline and
dry humor it won us over after the first scene. Now what would a movie be without a soundtrack? I have to admit that I had my doubts about this
one, however with its unique cover bands and the occasional snippets of dialogue from some
of the movies more loveable characters it
turned out to be better than I expected.
In each song on the soundtrack you can hear
how each character is represented by different synthesizer tones. The more high pitched tones represent the man himself Napoleon while the lower bass tones seem to represent his Uncle Rico. Of course there are the 80's hits like Cyndi Lauper's “Time After Time” which is preformed
by Sparklemotion and the pop classic “I want Candy” preformed by Bow Wow Wow which happens to be the most “pop” song on the
entire soundtrack. The song “Canned Heat” by Jamiroquai is by far the best song on the album and it has now been made infamous by the
most famous dance scene in cult classic history!
There is nothing like 80's nostalgia and this soundtrack encompasses that concept. Filled with synthesizers and monotone singing this soundtrack will take you back to junior high, along with the sideways pony tails, trapper keepers, and moon boots!
