Michael Tolcher - A Star In The Making
By Todd Grasley/FloridaEntertainmentScene.com |
May 12, 2006 - Orlando, FL - Michael Tolcher joined Blues Traveler tonight at the House of Blues, continuing his May tour with the group. His soothing vocals and rhythmic beats on guitar got fans at the concert clapping their hands and dancing on their feet.
Michael hit the stage at 8:30, playing a 45 minute set. He sang songs such as “Sooner or Later” and “Mission Responsible” which were
off his latest album entitled “I am”.

The song “Sooner or Later" is about growing up and learning life’s lessons. Although many fans were there to see Blues Traveler, Tolcher raised some eyebrows. Blake Burns of Kissimmee said he would compare Tolcher to the likes of Jason Mraz or Dave Mathews. “I liked his voice, and how he got the crowd involved with his soft lyrics, that is hard to do. He also made his own beats by tapping on the guitar, he was like a one man band,” said Burns.
Though Tolcher might not be a familiar name his songs are getting recognized in Hollywood movies and primetime television shows. The hit song “Sooner or Later” is on the Wedding Crashers Ultimate Mix DVD and was also played on an episode of the NBC show Scrubs, “Bad Habits” can be found on the One Tree Hill Soundtrack, and “Waiting” can be heard on an HBO spot for their mid-winter lineup. Not a bad resume for a singer with only one CD on shelves.
Tolcher, who hails from Lovejoy, Georgia, got his start in music by singing in the local choir and strumming on guitar whenever possible. Michael signed with Octone Records and has toured with stars such as Michelle Branch, Maroon 5, and Gavin Degraw.
