| Interview with Kat Parsons |
Kat Parsons |
Q: "No Will Power" is the title of your new album what would you
like to tell us about this album?
Kat: This album was really exciting to make - there were so many people involved from family and friends to fans and industry. The amount of support and synergy was
thrilling. It's got incredible players- a string section, upright bass, atmospheric and shreddy electric guitars, etc...It is moody and energetic....it is me.
Q: When will "No Will Power" hit the streets?
Kat: Fall 2004.
Q: Your doing something different on pre-orders for this album. Would you mind telling us what this is?
Kat: I invited my fans to be a part of the album through varying levels of pre-ordering. I sold over 450 cds through pre-orders
and will get to do all sorts of neat things for my fans including signing cds, dedicating songs at the CD Release Party, and thanking them on my album. It is
great to be connected to people and it is so encouraging to have such loving support.
Q: Do you have any personal favorite song(s) off the album?
Kat: Don't make me choose! "No Will Power" is a really exciting song for me because we produced it in a rock setting- it is exciting to hear my voice with all
those distorted guitars. Paul Maylone, who produced the album, did some wonderful string arrangements and I am in love with them; especially on We Deserve More,
Miss Me, and Standing Still.
Q: You recently did a live recording of "How Bout We See Other People (But You Don't)," will this song make it onto Your album?
Kat: I can't tell.....you'll have to get the album to see.
Q: What kind of message do you try and incorporate into your songs?
Kat: I am a fighter and a lover. I write about personal relationships; ranging from a song about my grandmother to a song about the falling apart of a romantic relationship. I am a very autobiographical writer and went through a big break up this year so a lot of the songs on "No Will Power" are about that, including the title track about how I have no will power to stay away from a certain not so good for me
someone.
Q: Once your album is released will you be touring to help promote it?
Kat: Yes, I will perform on the East Coast, Chicago, and the West coast.
Q: Do you have plans on performing in Florida at all?
Kat: You tell me. Let's make something happen!
Q: I've heard that it's possible for a fan to book you for a home concert. How can anyone Interested do this?
Kat: House concerts are great fun. An intimate and personal way to share music and company. It's just like hosting a party with a featured performer. For more info, shoot me an email at booking@KatParsons.com or go to KatParsons.com "Music" section.
Q: How supportive were your parents when you told them you wanted to follow in their footsteps and become a musician?
Kat: I am very lucky, my entire family (extended family included) are performers. My grandpa just got the silver medal at the Senior olympics for playing a saw and for his ventriloquist act. My dad was a professional opera singer (and still performs
professionally here and there), my mom was a singer-songwriter (and still performs professionally with a jazz trio, rockabilly band and women's blues band). My brother plays 5 instruments. My mom's sister is in a band, my mom's other sister teaches
dance, and my dad's three sisters all conduct choirs.
Q: What is your opinion on music censorship?
Kat: I very much believe in the First Amendment. Freedom of Speech is an integral part of our democracy. There are definitely things on the radio and said in life
with which I do not agree and that I don't feel good about, but all I can do is be myself and hope that as an artist I can contribute to the world in a positive, meaningful way.
Q: Where do you see yourself in five (5) years?
Kat: Filming my VH1 "Behind the Music" Special.
Q: Do you have anything to say to your fans who read this Interview?
Kat: You are great. Thank you and I hope to meet you soon.
