Hard Music Awards Review
At Tampa Theatre
On: August 4, 2005 |
Tampa, FL - Thursday Aug 4, 2005, was the very first Hard Music Awards held in downtown Tampa. It was nice to see an award show return to the area since we haven't had one in about 10 years or so. And finally one to recognize a genre that usually gets over looked at most award shows.

Best Hard Rock Album Winner Irrational |
The night was filled with a lot of great bands throughout Florida in attendance including - Sister Kill Cycle, Endo, End of the Rope, Irrational, Malaki, My Own Sin, 5 Billion Dead and headliners Nonpoint.
The awards show started with comedian Bryan Hamilton doing a great impression of the late Sam Kinison. Then they got right down to giving the hardware away. Some of the categories & winners were - BEST ALBUM ALTERNATIVE: d'Manufacture, BEST ALBUM EXTREME METAL: End Of The Rope (Through Callow Eyes), BEST NEW ARTIST: My Own Sin, HARD ROCK ALBUM: Irrational, HARD ROCK ARTIST: Sister Kill Cycle and LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Jon Oliva. The Genitorturers lead the way with a total of 6 Awards won, followed by South Florida's Nonpoint who won 4 awards.

Dancers Entertaining The Crowd |
Performances included The Most Dangerous Band in the World Sister Kill Cycle to get things started and they really set the tone for the evening.
Hard Rock Artist Winner Sister Kill Cycle |
Endo from Miami followed with an outstanding performance midway through the event and Lava Records recording artist Nonpoint headlined and closed out the evening on a very high note with their high energy brand of metal.

Gil From Endo |
Overall, the Hard Music Awards was a huge success not only for the promoters, venue and those who attended, but most of all for the Tampa music scene. I loved that it was more of a party atmosphere than a stuffy suit and tie gala. Hopefully this is the first installment of this great show with many more to come.
