Augst 1, 2006 - Formed in the 1970s Foreigner has sold over 50 million records and spawned over 15 top 40 hits in the United States, including such hits as, "Cold As Ice," "Feels Like The First Time," "Head Games," "Jukebox Hero" and "Urgent." Before their recent show at House of Blues in Orlando, we sat down and chatted with Bassist Jeff Pilson. Below is what he had to say to us.
Q: What do you think is the importance of online publications such as Florida Entertainment Scene?
JP: I think they are starting to become a lot more important and be a lot more important in the future. In the next couple of years it's really going to spread and the whole Internet will be the most important and best sales and distribution tool available.
Q: If you could play a dream concert, who would you want to play in it?
JP: Paul McCartney.
Q: Do you find it amazing that after all these years with Foreigner, people come out and support the band as they do?
JP: It's not something you want to take for granted. I appreciate what this music is because I am also a fan and it appeals to any generation with the great music.
Q: Which type of venue best suits Foreigners style of music?
JP: The music is best suited for arenas, although smaller venues have a special magic about them. There is such a rush about playing in an arena, the vibration, the energy and it's very personal.
Q: Are there plans for a new album?
JP: There are. We are planning a live DVD called 'Extended Versions' and with that we are thinking of packaging 3 new songs on that which should come out in November. We are talking about releasing in some format sometime next year.
Q: Do you write songs from real life experiences or do you build a song around the music?
JP: Mick Jones does most of the writing and from what he has said, some are built on real life but "Urgent" came from the word and the song built around that phrase.
Q: Is there anything you would change with Foreigner?
JP: Not being an original member, it's more difficult for me to say but I think Mick would say he might do some things differently. However, looking at the track record of the band, they must have done something right.
Q: When you go on tour, do you still get nervous or really excited?
JP: You still get really excited but from doing this for so long, you don't get nervous so much anymore. There is nothing like playing live, it's a very unique experience. When you are at home, you can record but you have to be on the road to get that rush.
Q: How long have you been with Foreigner?
JP: Jason and I started playing gigs along with the singer, Kelly, have been with the band for over a year now.
Q: Do you have anything to say to your fans?
JP: Thank you to the fans, just thank you for coming to all the shows and we hope you spread the word more. Foreigner has a plan and that plan is world domination (Laughs). Get on board while you can (Laughs.)
