| Q: Most of our readers are familiar with The Early November but for those who aren't can you briefly tell us how the band formed and picked
it's name?
Jeff: We started the band sometime between 2000-01. At first we were 3 peice and played some shows until we recorded an 11 song CD. We then added another guitar player. The name Early November came from lyrics in a song that Ace wrote previously before the band was formed.
Q: How would you describe The Early November's sound?
Jeff: I wouldnt know what to tell you. Its however you take it and want to call it.
Q: How difficult was it for the band to get inked to a record deal?
Jeff: I don't know if it was difficult to get the record deal. That really all had to do with luck, just difficult to do what was needed to be done before we got lucky.
Q: What advice would you give a young up and coming musician on how to land a record deal and what pitfalls should they avoid?
Jeff: Don't start a band and immediately want to get signed. Send out presskits and start touring on your own and never think you deserve more than what you have.
Q: What are some of your favorite songs from your latest CD "Room's Too Cold?"
Jeff: probably the last song ("Everything's Too Cold ... But You're So Hot") on the record.
Q: In general, how many songs does the band have written before going into the studio to record an album?
Jeff: Ace has what I like to think (are) thousands of songs. He'll show me like 3 new songs a day and I think they're all good. I really can't keep track. We usually have a bunch that we are set on though before we go to record. If we're going to say do an 11 song cd. We'd go in ready to record 15 in case some songs dont come out the way we want them.
Q: How do you decide which songs make it onto the album and which ones are released as singles?
Jeff: We usually decide after everything is done in the studio.
Q: Where does the band draw inspiration for their songs?
Jeff: From personal everyday life experiances.
Q: When can we expect new music from The Early November?
Jeff: Let's say summer of 2005.
Q: Can you give us some insight on what this album will be like?
Jeff: Its a secret. Lets just hope you like it.
Q: How did the band get involved with this year's Take Action Tour?
Jeff: We were contacted about it and jumped at the opportunity knowing that it was for a good cause.
Q: What are some of your most memorable moments from this tour?
Jeff: Doing comedy skits in the van with Joe on our 6 hour drives everyday.
Q: What other tour plans does the band have once the Take Action Tour is finished?
Jeff: Nothing is scheduled right now. Were going to focus real hard for the next three months while were recording this record. And after that most likley we will be doing A LOT of touring.
Q: What is your favorite song to play live and why?
Jeff: Whatever song people enjoy the most at the show. I love when crowds "put
out the vibe" it gets me kinda horny.
Q: If you could change places with one person in the world who would it be and why?
Jeff: My dad . Because he doesn't care about shit and shreds all day long.
Q: How involved is the band in maintaining and developing their website?
Jeff: Not very involved. We dont know much about websites, but we talk to people on the message boards sometimes.
Q: Do you or other members of the band reply to fan questions?
Jeff: Me and Joe try as much as we can to answer questions and let people on our website know whats going on before anyone else.
Q: A fan takes a kick ass photo of their favorite band member and wants to share the photo with the band. How can they do this?
Jeff: There's something on our website that will let you send any photos you want to the band and we put it on the website. We have a section of pictures with only us and fans.
Q: What's the best way for a die hard fan to get the band to sign a copy of a CD they bought?
Jeff: Come to a show. We usually always go to the merch table and hang out with people right after we play. And if were not there were walking around somewhere in the venue. We won't hide from you.
Q: How helpful you do find online publications such as Florida Entertainment Scene are in helping to get the word out about bands like The Early November?
Jeff: Everything helps.
Q: The band plays a lot of shows in Florida. Any chance The Early November will relocate to Florida?
Jeff: Maybe Ace, he talks about moving to Florida and other countries. Who knows? But me? You'll never catch me moving out of Jersey brah.
Q: Do you have anything to say to your fans who read this Interview?
Jeff: I think its awesome to see that people haven't just completely forgot about
us because we haven't toured for 6 months. That people still come to the
shows, show their support and hang out is such a relief. If any one of those
people read this I want them to know that the four of us wouldnt be able to
do what we love with out your support. We think it's amazing that you still
care and are sticking with us.
