February 4, 2008 - Many people will remember Course of Nature; the band hit the national scene in 2001 with their hit single "Caught In the Sun." Now Course of Nature is back with a great new album called 'Damaged' which features the Mainstream Rock top 40 hit "Anger Cage" and many other songs. Recently we chatted with front man Mark Wilkerson and below is what he had to say to us.

Course of Nature

FES: When will Damaged be released?

Mark: January 29, 2008. [Damaged is now available.]

FES: Can you tell us how "Damaged" is different from previous Course of Nature albums?

Mark: Damaged is more evolved and more mature than "Superkala," our previous album. Due to the fact that there was 5 years in between records.

FES: Will "Anger Cage," "Live Again" and "The Window" all be released as singles?

Mark: Anger Cage is at radio now, but God willing, they all will find there way to radio.

FES: How many music videos will be made from Damaged?

Mark: Hopefully there will be a video on every single.

FES: It's been said bands have more creative freedom being on an indie label can you give us some examples of how being on an indie label helped the creative process when Course of Nature was recording "Damaged"?

Mark: We were not yet on a label when we recorded the album. But since we have been on SMG, we have had much more freedom and input in all aspects. It really feels the way a major should have.

FES: Where did you draw inspiration for the songs on Damaged?

Mark: Real life experiences. I have hard time writing about something I don't personally feel strong about. It has to be real to me in order to perform it night in and night out.

FES: What are your thoughts on working with David Bendeth on Damaged and will Course of Nature work with him on future albums?

Mark: Who knows what will come in the future. I am extremely proud of Damaged and what David Bendeth, Dan Korneff and John Bender did with it. They have a great system of not getting in each others way.

FES: What can we expect from Course of Nature for the remainder of 2007 and beyond?

Mark: Tour, rest, Tour, rest, Tour, rest, Tour, record, rest. Might drag into 2008 or even 2009 if we are lucky.

FES: When can we expect to see Course of Nature playing shows in Florida?

Mark: Hopefully soon. Florida is close to home for me and most of the other guys. We are east coasters and feel very "at home" there. Plus Florida is a great music town. I feel like the fans really know music. Hell, Jeff Hanson!

FES: How important do you feel playing shows in Florida are in helping to increase the overall popularity of Course of Nature?

Mark: As I said before, it's a great music state. Some of my favorite bands have broken from there.

FES: You've called yourself a "Small-town guy" how difficult has it been for a small-town guy to acclimate himself to the bustle of big city such as Los Angeles?

Mark: First off, I am "small town." I don't have a big city bone in my body. I have adjusted and accepted that I may not get back to the "real world" for a while so I am just making the best of it.

FES: How important do you think online publications such as Florida Entertainment Scene are in getting the word out about bands such as Course of Nature?

Mark: Huge! When you are starting over like this it is hard to overcome people’s perception of you and why you have been gone for so long. This is a great forum to let people know personally what has been going on and what to expect from you.

FES: Can you describe Course of Nature using 7 or less words?

Mark: The best band ever, in our opinion.

FES: Do you have anything to say to Course of Nature fans who read this interview?

Mark: Don’t' forget about real Rock. A lot of bands are filing us full of this "weird" rock with a lot of "experimental" things going on in it. We keep it simple for one reason; that's how it should be!

Course of Nature is:
Mark Wilkerson - Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar
