| Bury Your Dead "Cover Your Tracks" CD Review |
Its not everyday when you stumble across an album where every song is named after a Tom Cruise movie and its not everyday that you would expect this album with its Tom Cruise tribute to be a hard-core metal band! Bury Your Dead "Cover Your Tracks" is a hard-core metal band hailing from the Northeast and slowly but surely making their way into every home in America.
With pounding drums, howling guitars, and deep bass
tones, you can hear the influences of Pantera, Sevendust
and virtually every other 90's metal group you can think of.
If you listen to the whole album you can hear melodies that are uncommon for a typical hard-core group showing that the guys of Bury Your Dead have more than one level.
As far as the lyrics go there isn't a need to "read into" any
of the lines in "Cover Your Tracks." In the song "Top Gun"
the singer laments on a bitter betrayal singing "I have no
love inside my heart only a knife in my back." In the song Vanilla Sky you hear of a lost love with lyrics such as "I am tired of crying, tired of sleeping alone. If this is how you
want it, I am moving on." And in the song Magnolia the
group touches on a very serious and deeply personal
subject of abuse. All of this agony rolled into a tight, glossy package is sure to touch a cord in angst ridden metal
lovers all over the U.S.
The thing I found most impressive was the CD cover and packaging. The boys are not in the usual jeans and T-shirts that most metal groups are found in. They decided to go against the grain and wear 1920s inspired pin stripped suits with the shiny black and white shoes. It gives the band an "old school mob" feel and if you look at the pictures in the
CD jacket you will find that a story is played out in the pictures. A story of a bitter betrayal and revenge..daytime soaps couldn't have written it any better.
