Barenaked Ladies
at St. Pete Times Forum |
December 31, 2005 - Tampa, FL - St. Pete Times forum hosted their second annual New Year's Eve bash with headliners Barenaked Ladies. Considering the fact that I didn't know these guys were still around, I was slightly skeptical about what kind of New Year's Eve cheer this band could give to a crowd ready to get down and party. I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
Even if you're not a Barenaked Ladies fan, there is something amusing about their kooky energy.
If you enjoy watching a 40 year old, slightly overweight man kick a leg high above his head and imitate ballet moves, this could be great New Year's Eve fun. Lead vocalists Steve Page and Ed Robertson cracked up the audience with their spontaneously funny and creative freestyling and holiday songs such as "Sippin' on Gin and Jesus."

While the music scene might have forgotten about these crazy guys, BNL has found a creative and innovative way to sell their music. They have released their latest album on a reusable memory stick, which contains 29 songs and plays on any audio product with a USB port. It sells for $30 and while "Bare Naked on a Stick" might seem a bit pricey, it also contains live tracks, videos and photos on MP3 format and…don't forget its reusable.
Bottom line, I found the Barenaked Ladies themselves to be more entertaining than their music. These guys cracked jokes throughout the show, while sometimes a little too corny (cringe…) they were able to provide good clean hilarious holiday fun. Even if you're not a diehard fan, I highly recommend a Barenaked Ladies concert for comedic value alone.
