| Bleed
the Dream - "Awake" CD Review |
The Southern California boys known as Bleed the Dream, released
their debut E.P., Awake, in July of 2003.
I came across this band after hearing their
(what seems
to be) trademark song, "Solace,"
on the 2004 Vans Warped
Tour compilation CD.
"Solace" was definitely a song that stood from
the 26 tracks on the Warped album. It has a high energy, refreshing
sound with a catchy chorus:
"They say we chase dreams that don't exist, but you have tried
so hard to find what's better than this..." First impressions
definitely do matter.
Kicking off Awake was an attention grabber called "Villain." This
song alone let Bleed the Dream's talent shine through the crack of
the stereotypical "new age of rock" music. Lead vocalist,
Brandon Thomas and backing vocals/bassist Keith Thompson knew exactly
where to belt out every note and scream right where it needed to
go - flowing with the music perfectly.
The second track, "Overcrowded Room," is one of those
songs where girls just want to say "aww" and guys secretly
do too. The lyrics
sound like poetry coming straight from the
heart
made into an incredible song.
"The essence of your eyes, makes me just want to die,
And I can't stand the way they'll never look at me again, I think
about you every night..."
Musically this E.P. is outstanding. Guitarist Dave Aguilera and
bassist Thompson do a great job with the creativity they put forth
into their music, along with the backbone of rhythm, Scott
Gottlieb
on drums.
It seems as though they spend quite a bit of
time perfecting each
song. Every track is distinctly different, however, still maintaining
their recognizable sound.
Bleed the Dream is an addicting band.
With their music constantly floating around in your head throughout
the day, you can't help but to like them.
