June 14, 2006 - Before their show at The Social in Orlando, FL we sat down with Nate Bott from Big City Rock and below is what he had to say to us.

Big City Rock

Q: I just wanted to say congratulations on your new album, self titled Big City Rock, very cleverly titled. Where is it available for sale?

Nate: Anywhere, Tower Records, Independent record stores, Virgin Megastores… I believe that’s where we’re talking about now. You wouldn’t be able to find it at a Target or Walmart yet.

Q: How long have you been touring and promoting this album?

Nate: Since January [2006]. Really we kind of started touring before it came out in March. And now it’s out and we’re doing a single this August and a lot of touring all year and probably into next year.

Q: Who are some of the bands you’ve played with?

Nate: We played with like the LA Scene, Maroon 5, Phantom Planet, The Like, and we played with Head Automatica, Diamond Knights…
We love those guys and now of course Morningwood has been one
of my favorite bands so far…so….they are amazing live.

Q: Are their any other bands you are looking forward to playing with?

Nate: Looking forward to playing with anyone who will take us really
I just love getting a variety of shows, and meeting a variety of audiences. You know I think we are just at a very much of sort of an incubation period in finding our niche so I’m just willing to throw myself with any crazy situation and see what happens.

Q: Who are some of your influences?

Nate: Well You know we were really going for like a U2 vibe I think people will find that um they will hear a little Police um a lot of people just thinks it sounds like The Killers…and I think ever since the new wave explosion in like 2000 or whatever that has definitely helped us to find our sound.

Q: Yes, I saw on Blender they compared you to the Killers. How do you feel about that?

Nate: Yeah, we get that a lot and I’m comfortable with it I think people just need to know it’s that vibe, but ultimately I think your going to find it’s just different.

Q: Who’s the band's primary writer?

Nate: Well, it’s a band effort, Frank and I do a lot of the lyrical honing you know but it wouldn’t be BCR without all of 5 of us in the practice space.

Q: And Frank is the keyboard player?

Nate: Yes.

Q: How about the development of your album, who did you work with on that and how long did it take?

Nate: We worked with producers Adam Schlesinger, and Brian Malouf who are just amazing guys enigmas of musical knowledge and expertise and it wouldn’t have been the record it is without them…

Q: And so you are signed with Atlantic records, how did that come about?

Nate: I have absolutely no idea. I heard we were being scouted and then eventually our A & R guy John Rugelli approached us and was just very forthcoming and positive about what we were doing and we signed. We didn’t even look at anybody else.

Q: Well you deserve it. It’s a great band!

Nate: Thanks.

Q: I saw your video for “All of the Above” at bigcityrock.net and it’s awesome, where can we expect to see it in the future?

Nate: Well anywhere that will play us you know we’re just putting it out there I’d love to see it on MTV, M2 or college MTV, but right now it’s sort of public access music stations and stuff.

Q: Is there any other job you’d like to be doing if you weren’t in this band, fast food joint, etc?

Nate: (laughs) No I’ve had my share of that scene.

Q: And you are originally from?

Nate: Madison, WI, but been in LA for a while back now so.

Q: So the relocation worked out then?

Nate: Yes.

Q: Is there anything you want to share with any of your fans on Florida Entertainment Scene?

Nate: We are definitely humanitarians and I would encourage them to visit the Amnesty International website it’s easy enough to just click and send letters off to congress people and political leaders throughout the country and the world and then get involved it’s pretty easy on a surface level then I think you know if you are interested in getting more in depth there’s some profound truth to learn.

Q: That’s great! Thank you for sharing that.

Nate: Well, hey no problem.

Q: Do you think online publications like Florida Entertainment Scene help promote bands like yours?
