Big City Rock Entertains Orlando
By Liz Fernandez/FloridaEntertainmentScene.com |
June 14, 2006 - Orlando, FL - The relevantly titled Big City Rock quintet rocked the small city of Orlando, in a fashion that only a small time band on the verge of making it big would enable. Having signed to Atlantic Records only two years prior, Big City Rock know how to keep it simple, but man was it sweet. They played seven songs, six of which appear on their self titled album Big City Rock and one titled “Follow Me” available to fans and members of their street team only.
I made a mental note to join because that was one of my favorite songs and after hearing the chorus and melody I caught on right away.

This is common for a lot of their songs: Not discerningly predictable but irrefutably well polished. Their skilled lyrics like the ones shared in “Human” make you look at the big picture from a simple perspective and remind you that something greater than man keeps us all human. Let’s reflect upon this analogy and refer to their resemblance to a young U2 and yes compared again to The Killers, only because of their synthesizers and quick bass groove remind us of the popular new wave explosion. But I spoke with Nate Bott, the extremely down to earth singer and guitar player before their show and he agreed that being compared to such bands is ok by him.
It is very easy to like this band. Vocalist Nate Bott has a rich and rewarding voice and he trips around on stage sharing his rhythm and quirky moves with his audience inviting them to move. The drummer, Kaumyar, closed the deal on rhythm with all his Animal-like energy. He was all over the place beating those drums like they did something wrong. Completing the sound and contributing to this high energy performance is keyboard and vocalists Frank Staniszeski, Tim Resudek on bass, and Andy Barr on guitar All five members look ultra cool casual, Nate wearing a vintage Genesis shirt, and meeting their profile of “we look like we just walked out of bed but still look good” attire. And quite frankly, who cares what they looked like! They sounded awesome and kept me entertained.
Their last two songs, that unfortunately so promptly arrived, caught the attention of a few locals lingering around the bar. I witnesses a few of them get closer to the main floor and most everyone had their eyes on the singer. This is always a good sign when new faces realize that there is good music playing around them. Well, Nate may have noticed this as well, because he excelled in these songs projecting even more confidently “All Of The Above,” which is one of their most radio-friendly songs and bounce worthy tunes. He had a tendency to pull his hair a lot on stage leaving it standing up and appealingly messy.
