Army of Freshmen "Beg, Borrow, Steal" CD Review

I didn't expect much from the second release of "Army of Freshmen." You take one look at the CD cover with its simple cartoon drawing of a tree house burning down and immediately you conjure up judgments about the content. However upon listening to the CD I was surprised to find that
it had more depth than originally expected.

The intro was unanticipated. With its soothing synthesizer melody that flows right into the first song "Beg, Borrow, Steal" This first song sets the tone for the entire album with its effervescent melody and your normal pop/punk lyrics about self discovery and the fight within. I mean what pop/punk album would be complete without a little teenage angst right! The guys go on to show that they have more sides than just the angst ridden, troubled souls in search of themselves. In the song "Gang Signs" they show that they are capable of
love with lyrics like "I'll be the king, you'll be the queen"
and in the song "Last Dance" they confront the reality of
the media and how life is not always the way that it is portrayed on MTV. (wow who would have thought huh)!

"Army of Freshmen" combine a variety of different sounds
to create the melting pot that is "Beg, Borrow, Steal." With 80's style synthesizers, Beastie Boys style hip-hop, and
your normal pop influences their sound is all their own. To compare them to other pop/punk groups would be doing this group an injustice because it's obvious that they have
worked hard to create a sound that is unique and that is exactly what they have done. The sophomore album has proven to be a success and has given us something to look forward to now that Blink 182 is no more. So pick up your phones dial up TRL and vote for Army of Freshmen and
thrust them into the spotlight that is rightfully theirs!

Army of Freshmen hail from Ventura, Ca and (when not in the studio recording music) tour on a regular basis. You can visit them on the internet by visiting the official Army of Freshmen website. You can sample music by AOF by visiting their page at Myspace.com.
