MEET YEAR'S THIS LINE-UP (NEW EACH WEEK)
BLACK MILK
[DETROIT, MI]
FATBEATS RECORDS
(Performing Sat. Night @ A3C)
Producer/Emcee Black Milk came up in Detroit, beginning his career in 2004, holding down tracks for none other than hometown icons Slum Village. Since then, he’s worked with Pharoahe Monch, Canibus and others of similar stature, his come-up continuing with “Broken Wax,” his 2006 EP, put out on Fatbeats Records. This March will bring the release of his album “Popular Demand,” also on Fatbeats. Whether from your car stereo or from the A3C stage, Black Milk will
punch you in the lungs with heavy drums and grimy flows shouting out the Motor City like WuTang repped the Shaolin Slums. Prove that you know Detroit is more than Kid Rock and “8-Mile” by visiting: myspace.com/blackmk.
THE SMILE RAYS
[JACKSONVILLE, FL]
ATF RECORDS
(Performing Thu. Night @ A3C)
Steadily winning the admiration of indie Hip-hop fans and mainstream heavyweights the likes of Ludacris’ DJ Jaycee, the Smile Rays hail from the 904 area code – Duvall County, FL – a region that’s emerging as the Southeast’s newest unlikely True School hotbed. Coming much ruder than their sunny, upbeat name suggests, the Rays consist of: emcee Therapy (of Jacksonville’s AB’s crew and touring DJ for their fellow A3C alums The Perceptionists) vocalist Daisey and beatsmith Batsauce. Provided you can’t cop it any sooner, the group’s “A Toast” EP is a highly recommended A3C purchase. Do your homework by checking out: myspace.com/smilerays.
ODDISEE
[WASHINGTON, DC]
HALFTOOTH RECORDS
(Performing Fri. Night @ A3C)
In 1999, Washington DC native Oddisee produced DJ Jazzy Jeff’s “Musik Lounge,” a track which would become the first bullet point in a resume including collabs with Talib Kweli, J-Live, Asheru & Little Brother; not to mention with his own “Low Budget” crew *(formed by Oddisee and peers Cy Young, Kenn Starr & Kev Brown). Arguably the most versatile player on the Halftooth Records roster, the emcee/producer gives his first Atlanta performance at this year’s A3C festival. Don’t miss a single bar of his jazz, funk & world music influenced brand of Hip-hop. If you don’t visit myspace.com/oddisee720 in the next sixty seconds, it will be obvious that you hate Hip-hop and should be
ostracized.
