A Quest for Success: Adventure Novel Follows Trial of Man Searching for True Values in Life
SUFFOLK, Va., July 3, 2007/PRNewswire/ -- George Harpen's novel, "The Journey to the Forest of Temptation" (now available through AuthorHouse), describes the exhilarating adventures and personal struggles of a man defending his individualism while being persecuted by a corrupt society.
In a world of the not-so-distant future, Gregorio, an idealistic adventurer, dares to stand up to defend his values in a society corrupt with lust for money and possessions. This society measures success in the width of a wallet and magnitude of a bank account. The city council members view Gregorio as a disgrace and failure to the rest of society, and the people agree. While Gregorio digs deep to discover the true meaning of success, his life crumbles as everyone he knows turns their backs on him.
Gregorio is constantly humiliated at work, turned away when he tries to enter stores and people either divert their eyes or glare at him in hatred and disgust when he is out in public. After he retreats to his home, he is devastated when his house is condemned to be torn down by order of the city council. Matters grow much worse when he is arrested at the order of the councilmen by ruthless henchmen who force him into an ultimate defense via a public trial.
As his trial progresses, Gregorio's mind slips on shaky ground, and he questions his own convictions. He is determined to regain honor and valor, but who he is and what he believes is suddenly not as concrete. A friendly stranger and three guardians come to his aid just when he needs it most as he ventures into the unknown searching for answers. Each new trial and tribulation he endures brings him one step closer to discovering what really matters and understanding the true definition of success.
"I think people will enjoy this book because it has a moral value while it has the excitement of an Indiana Jones book or movie," says Harpen. The book is targeted towards young adults and adults of all ages.
Harpen grew up in a Catholic, humble household with four younger brothers and two loving parents. As he grew older, he constantly evaluated his lifestyle, beliefs and aspirations. After graduating high school, he attended college and currently works for the U.S. Navy. "The Journey to the Forest of Temptation" is his first book.
