WrestleMania XXIV comes to Orlando

February 25, 2008 - Get ready Orlando, for the first time in its 23 year history; WrestleMania is invading the Florida Citrus Bowl on March 30, 2008. Only four matches have been announced so far for the big event, but there will surely be more to come.
The Main Event will feature WWE Champion Randy Orton against Triple H and former WWE champion who never legitimately lost the title, John Cena. Cena had to win a match against Orton to get into the Triple Threat Match, which did not please Triple H to know he has two opponents to beat to become a 12-time WWE Champion at WrestleMania. Triple H had to survive a match at No-Way-Out where he was locked in an Elimination Chamber with five other wrestlers vying for the chance to be the number one contender for the title.
The other title match at WrestleMania will see World Champion Edge take on The Undertaker. The “dead man” enters his 17th WrestleMania with a career record of 15-0 that is unmatched by any other professional wrestler in WWE history. Edge comes into WrestleMania as a champion who has taken every short-cut imaginable to get to this point. The rated R superstar has stooped to the level of using Vickie Guerrero to help him regain the world title. If nothing else, it surely proves he will do anything, disgusting or not, to retain his belt at WrestleMania. The Undertaker has been back with a vengeance in recent weeks; overtaking or undertaking every opponent that has been put in front of him. With “The Phenom” back in top shape, it will be a tough task for Edge to keep The Undertaker from going 16-0 at the grandest event in wrestling today.
One of the most exciting matches at WrestleMania’s in recent years has been the Money in the Bank match. This match is used to decide who is the new number one contender for the WWE, World, or ECW titles; the winner of this match can use the contract in the brief case at anytime for any title shot he wishes. This year’s participants include the Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, Mr. Kennedy, and Shelton Benjamin. Hardy is coming off his biggest push of his long WWE career. He nearly defeated Randy Orton for his WWE title, but it is hard to beat a champion who continuously gets himself disqualified on purpose. Mr. Kennedy has had recent feuds with Shawn Michaels that has made him one of the top performers on RAW. Benjamin has taken over the ECW brand like no other superstar has to this point; it should be interesting to see how his high-flying style fairs in this match against the likes of Hardy and Kennedy. Expect to see both Benjamin and Hardy climbing up high on those ladders and Kennedy to be the man pushing them over out of desperation in a lot of cases. Hardy recently completed a 30-foot jump onto Orton after yet another match where the “Legend Killer” got himself disqualified.
The most intriguing of all the match-ups at WrestleMania has to be the Big Show making his WWE comeback match against Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Big Show has been out of action since losing his ECW title in the summer of 2007. Mayweather is stepping out of the boxing ring for the first time in his career. This feud all started at No-Way-Out when Big Show was picking on Rey Mysterio, Mayweather was at ringside supporting his friend Mysterio and was not pleased with Big Show’s tactics. Mayweather promptly entered the ring and broke the nose of the Big Show. The actions taken at No-Way-Out led to Big Show challenging Mayweather for this match at WrestleMania.
Over the next few weeks it will be important to tune into WWE Raw and SmackDown to see what other matches are made for this event. WrestleMania takes place starting at 7:00 p.m. at Orlando’s Florida Citrus Bowl. Tickets for the event are nearly sold out to the point where you may have to get creative to buy tickets. This will easily be the most talked about event in the long and storied history of the Florida Citrus Bowl stadium. Over 70,000 fans are expected to pack the stadium on March 30th for WrestleMania XXIV which could be the largest crowd in the history of the stadium as well.
