Lasek And Cranmer Take Top Honors Again At Dew Action Sports Tour


Four Days of Competition Concluded at San Jose's HP Pavilion


San Jose, Calif. - September 10, 2006 - Scotty Cranmer took first in BMX Park and Bucky Lasek won Skateboard Vert in the final day of competition at the Dew Action Sports Tour's fourth stop, the Toyota Challenge, at the HP Pavilion.

Cranmer, 19, of Jackson, N.J. earned a score of 93.75 on his first run, securing the win with a no-handed frontflip and a double tailwhip tire tap. Los Gatos, Calif. native Ryan Nyquist took second with a score of 93.50 while Venezuela's Daniel Dhers came in third with a 92.00.

"The way today worked out was awesome," said Cranmer. "It put me back on top in the points standings. I couldn't be in a better position going into Orlando." Cranmer, who also took first place at the Panasonic Open in June, leads the BMX Park points race with 297.

Baltimore's Bucky Lasek, 33, took first today in the Skateboard Vert competition with a score of 91.75. Lasek, 2005's Dew Cup winner in Skateboard Vert, earned his win today-his first of the 2006 season-with a frontside heelflip gay twist. Sandro Dias, 31, of Santo Andre, Brazil earned a score of 90.75 to secure second place while Bob Burnquist, 29, of Rio de Janerio, Brazil, took third with 89.25.

"I really wanted to win and I had no choice but to step up my tricks," said Lasek. "I've been waiting for this all year. I feel good and I'm skating consistently."

The four-day competition is the fourth of five stops of the Dew Action Sports Tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross. The Dew Tour's next stop is October 12-15 at Orlando's TD Waterhouse Centre.

Today concludes four days of competition at San Jose's HP Pavilion. On Thursday, Michal Prokop of the Czech Republic took first place in the first round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Finals. The competition is a precursor to what will be seen in Beijing 2008, when BMX Supercross debuts as an Olympic sport. This was the first of two rounds of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup; the second and final round will be held in Fréjus, France, October 6-7, 2006. In BMX Supercross, points are given to individual athletes and to countries in the UCI Nations ranking, which qualifies competing countries into the 2008 Olympic Games. This is the second consecutive year that the Toyota Challenge hosted the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Finals. More than 100 athletes from 15 nations participated in San Jose.

35-year old Jamie Bestwick won the BMX Vert competition on Friday. Bestwick. of Great Britain, who earned the 2005 Dew Cup in BMX Vert, scored 95.75 on his first run to secure the win. Chad Kagy, 27, of Gilroy, Calif. and Simon Tabron, 32, of Great Britain both scored a 92.75 with an alley-oop 540. Through a tie-breaker, Kagy finished in second as he scored better on his second run with an 88.00 to Tabron's 85.00.

Ryan Guettler, 23, captured his first victory of the season in BMX Dirt by posting a 93.25 on his first run in the best of two format. Fellow Australians Luke Parslow, 21, and Corey Bohan, 24, finished in second and third with scores of 91.75 and 90.50. Guettler, who won last year's Dew Cup in both BMX Park and Dirt, landed a double tailwhip into 720 to highlight his winning run. The top six finalists all hail from Australia.

On Saturday, Nate Adams captured the Freestyle Motocross title. Adams, 22, of Glendale, Ariz. secured the win with a score of 93.50 on his first run that was highlighted by a Backflip Cordova. Mike Mason, 25, of Minden, Nev. took second with a score of 91.83 and Jeremy Lusk, 21, of San Diego, Calif. placed third, earning a score of 88.67. With today's win, Adams moves into first place in the season standings with 350 total points, ahead of Travis Pastrana who did not compete in the Toyota Challenge.

In Skateboard Park, Ryan Sheckler took first place with a score of 91.80, securing his third first-place finish on the 2006 Dew Action Sports Tour with a run that included a switch kickflip backside lip. Sheckler, 16, from San Clemente, Calif. now leads the points standings with 355. Greg Lutzka, 21, of Milwaukee, Wisc. earned 88.50 to place second while Boston's Jereme Rogers took third with a score of 87.50.
