Adams, Bestwick, Dhers, Lasek, Napolitan, Sheckler Awarded 2006 Dew Cups
Orlando, Fla. - October 15, 2006 - The Dew Action Sports Tour, the pro tour of action sports, today wrapped up its final day of competition for the 2006 season at PlayStation® Pro, the fifth and final stop of the Tour, at the TD Waterhouse Centre. Nate Adams won the Freestyle Motocross season title and Daniel Dhers captured the BMX Park title.
Placing first at the PlayStation® Pro tour stop was Mike Mason, 25, of Minden, NV, with a final score of 95.67. In second place was Jeremy Lusk, 21, of San Diego, Calif. who finished with a score of 93.00. Adams, 22, of Glendale, AZ, finished with a score of 92.67, placing him in third and earning him enough points for the Dew Cup.
Adams finished the season with a total of 413 points, followed by Mason with 287 and Travis Pastrana, 22, of Davidsonville, MD with 275.
"I'm just glad to be healthy. I made it through the whole year without being seriously injured," said Adams. "It feels great. I've been competing all year and this is a big step up from ninth place last year."
"To end the contest like this is just awesome," said Mason. "This is the first big contest I've ever won. Next year on the Dew Tour will be great and I'll be competing for the overall title."
Dhers, 21, of Caracas, VEN, placed first at the PlayStationâ Pro with a score of 96.75 to clinch the Tour title. Marcus Tooker, 20, of Cape Cod finished in second with a 90.75 after a tiebreaker, followed by Alistair Whitton, 25, of Great Britain who also earned a 90.75.
"It feels awesome to win the Dew Cup," said Dhers. "I trained a lot and practiced to make the Dew Action Sports Tour. This is unbelievable. I'm living a dream."
Dhers finished the season with a total of 389 points. Scotty Cranmer, 19, of Jackson, NJ finished with 330 points, followed by Ryan Nyquist, 27, of Los Gatos, Calif., with 319.
Jamie Bestwick was crowned Athlete of the Year, awarded to the athlete with the highest point total across all six disciplines. He earned a $25,000 bonus for the title. BMX Vert athlete Kevin Robinson was voted by fans as the PlayStation® Trick of the Year winner for his double flair landed at the Toyota Challenge last month in San Jose.

The PlayStationâ Pro is the fifth and final stop of the Dew Tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross. More than one million dollars in prize money was given away over the four days of competition. Other Dew Cup winners from the weekend include Jamie Bestwick (BMX Vert), Anthony Napolitan (BMX Dirt), Ryan Sheckler (Skateboard Park) and Bucky Lasek (Skateboard Vert).
Placing first in Skateboard Park at the PlayStation® Pro was Jereme Rogers, 21, of Boston, Mass., with a final score of 91.58. Ryan Sheckler, 16, of San Clemente, Calif., finished with a score of 89.75, placing him in second and earning him enough points for his second consecutive Dew Cup. In third place was Paul Rodriguez, 21, of Chatsworth, Calif. who finished with a score of 85.75.
"It is a tough competition between [Sheckler] and me," said Rogers. "But Ryan and I are friends, so I don't mind. I'm just psyched that I was able to finish on top here in Orlando."
"I couldn't be happier about winning the Dew Cup," said Sheckler. "I'm happy for Jereme, but I come to [the Dew Tour] to win and I'll be here again next year."
Sheckler, the 2005 Athlete of the Year, finishes the 2006 season with 430 points. Rogers is in second place overall with 401 points while Rodolfo Ramos, 22, of Cascavel, BRA takes third with 243 points.
With his win in Orlando, Bucky Lasek, 33, of Baltimore, Md., captured his second consecutive Dew Cup in Skateboard Vert. Lasek scored a 92.00 on his second run with a backside to tailslide over the channel, edging Australia's Tas Pappas. Pappas, 31, earned 88.00 on his first run but fell on his second, earning only .75 points to place him in second. Pierre-Luc Gagnon, 26, of Montreal, CAN took third place with a score of 86.50.
"Winning another Dew Cup is such a great feeling and I'm still in shock," said Lasek. "I wouldn't be able to push myself everyday without all of these pro skaters."
Lasek finished the 2006 season with a total of 413 points, more than 100 points above Sandro Dias, 31, of Santo Andre, BRA, who placed second overall with 300. Rio de Janeiro's Bob Burnquist, 30, finishes the season with 273 points total.
35-year old Jamie Bestwick of Great Britain won his second consecutive Dew Tour championship in BMX Vert on Friday. Bestwick scored a 95.75 on his first run to secure the victory and season title. Bestwick, whose professional career was in jeopardy at the beginning of the season after emergency neck surgery to repair damaged vertebrae, won four out of the five Tour stops this season.
"This is unbelievable," said Bestwick. "Tonight was the toughest contest of the season. Everyone pushed it to the limits. I'm so excited to come out on top."
Chad Kagy, 27, of Gilroy, Calif. scored a 94.00 to finish in second place in BMX Vert and in the season standings. In third was Kevin Robinson, 34, of East Providence, RI, with a score of 92.50. Robinson finished the season in third place overall.
In BMX Dirt, Anthony Napolitan, 20, of Youngstown, OH, who during his 2005 rookie season finished last in the Tour standings, concluded his sophomore season with the Tour title. He clinched the title with a score of 94.25 on his first run to win the PlayStation® Pro. Placing second was Corey Bohan, 24, of Australia with a 94.00 finishing the season in third place overall. Luke Parslow, 21, of Australia, finished in third with a score of 93.25, placing him in second overall in the standings.
"I'm just so excited I can't even put it into words," said Napolitan. "I couldn't be happier winning the Dew Cup."
