May 22, 2010 - Fort Lauderdale, FL – You know it’s going to be a good set when the crowd is moving after only a few seconds into the first song. The Bigger Lights demonstrated their exuberant style to the fans at Culture Room as they started out with the fun, upbeat song “That Kind Of Girl” from their recently released self-titled album. They are currently supporting Cute Is What We Aim For’s comeback tour along with The Friday Night Boys and Down With Webster.
After performing the second song, front man Topher Talley made a small mistake: he called the crowd Orlando instead of Fort Lauderdale. Let’s just say there were a few confused faces after this. The band then played “Romance In A Slow Dance” from their 2009 EP Fiction Fever and sometime during the song Topher must’ve realized his mistake because as soon as the song was over he apologized and made sure to call the crowd Fort Lauderdale for the rest of the show.
For the next song Topher asked everyone to make a heart with their hands (yes, guys too) and then to break that heart; the song was “Queen Of Broken Hearts.” He kept the energy up and interacted with the fans by reaching out and holding the hands of many screaming girls. The lights were dimmed as the band slowed things down with “So Crazy.” All the attention was soon directed to Chris McPeters as he displayed his guitar skills during a solo in the middle of the song.
The band ended their set with one of their most popular songs, “Closer (Time Stops Breathing)” also from their Fiction Fever EP. For this one Topher asked the crowd to go crazy as “there are no rules.” There were more people jumping and singing along to this song than all the others, probably since most fans are still not too familiar with the debut full-length that was just released on March 30, 2010.
After the show, the band hung out by the merch table where they talked to fans, took pictures, and signed autographs. The guys show their love to the fans and the fans show it right back. It was guitarist JK Royston’s birthday and a few dedicated fans brought him birthday cupcakes and small gifts. The venue has a curfew they must stick to so everyone was asked to leave, but the band was still willing to talk to fans in the parking lot long after the show was over.
This is the third tour this year for The Bigger Lights and there are already rumors of another one coming up soon. They’re working hard and building up a strong fan base, so don’t be surprised if these guys get really big soon!
